The picturesque department of Dordogne
Périgord is located in the Dordogne department, which is part of the Aquitaine region. It is one of the largest, most picturesque departments in France and also the richest in classified historical monuments. It is characterised by its mild climatic conditions and its fine offer of cultural sights, culinary specialities and opportunities for sporting activities.
A trip to the Dordogne at any time of year promises a journey into the past in the footsteps of our ancestors, friendly encounters with the inhabitants, a hearty and culinary stay, quiet and authentic.
The region Périgord Noir
Here you will find protected nature and magnificent landscapes with magical places steeped in history: prehistoric deposits and caves in the Vézère valley as witnesses to human presence in the Dordogne for 45. 000 years, medieval and Renaissance castles as witnesses of the Hundred Years’ War and the Wars of Religion (45 castles can be visited in the Périgord), medieval villages of which 10 are classified as “the most beautiful villages of France”, Romanesque churches with sculptured tympanums, water mills in the romantic so-called “green” Périgord, cities of art and history such as Sarlat and Périgueux.
Périgord is also envied throughout the world for the richness of its traditional gastronomy: Foie gras, goose and duck products, black truffles, chestnuts, nuts with AOC designation of origin, strawberries, … not forgetting the Bergerac wines (also 13 “controlled designations of origin” = AOC), neighbours, so to speak, of the great classified Bordelais “cru” vineyards.
And in this beautiful environment, our manor “Le Conte” is quietly situated on a hill in a nature reserve.
